Academic Recognition of Research

An Opportunity for a research degree at UQ:  the Master of Philosophy (MPHIL)

Many doctors have an interest in research, but want some support in the process, while not wanting to jump in directly to a PhD.  UQ offers an MPHIL degree, which is like a mini-PhD, in that you work with an advisor/advisory team on a small research project.

There are no course fees (the Commonwealth goverment pays for you).

Doctors can do the degree part-time and by distance learning - you need to put some time aside each week for your project but you can usually negotiate a flexible work load with your advisor.

The University now allows published papers to replace the thesis as the examinable output of the degree.  And, as a guide, 2 good papers in peer-reviewed journals would normally replace the thesis.

So, while certainly not for all doctors, if you are interested in research, or are doing (or planning to do) some research, why not think about doing it with support, and get a Masters degree?

UQ School of Medicine is currently recruiting a post doctoral research fellow who will help support MPHIL students.
